This is my Brawa HO Rock Island Alco DL-109 A Unit (metal chassis and plastic body) and my Märklin HO Southern Pacific Alco PA-1 AA Unit (all metall) pulling the Golden State (Chicago-Los Angeles) which is made up of 12 passenger cars. The 6 Walthers Southern Pacific cars are made out of plastic, while the the 6 Märklin Rock Island cars are made out of aluminium (Actually these Märklin cars are Sante Fe cars. I only attached self made Rock Island letterboards to turn them into Rock Island cars!). The train represents the Golden State between 1954 and 1958, when the Southern Pacific cars of that train were repainted into the original Sunset Limited scheme (silver with red letterboard), and the Rock Island cars of that train were repainted into all silver. The Golden State was pulled by Rock Island diesel locomotives from Chicago via Kansas City to Tucumcari, New Mexico, where the Southern Pacific diesel locomotives took over via El Paso to Los Angeles.
